What are the advantages of Invisalign?
- Invisible braces – no one will even know you are straightening your teeth, so you can smile with confidence during the treatment.
- Removable aligners – brushing or flossing thoroughly is not a problem and you can eat and drink without having to worry about food getting stuck between your braces.
- Comfortable treatment – no metal braces glued to your teeth means no mouth abrasions during treatment. With no metal and wires you will also spend less time in your dentist’s office getting adjustments.
- Preview your dream smile before you start – Invisalign is so innovative that it allows you to see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete before you even begin.
"Thousands of adults are now wearing Invisalign, including myself!" Dr Andrews
Here's what our principal dentist, Dr Karen Andrews had to say about her Invisalign treatment:
"Yes I am wearing Invisalign to straighten my teeth. I can therefore vouch from personal experience that they must be almost invisible because not one person has ever commented on them. I am getting towards the end of treatment now and yes they really do work. They are relatively comfortable and apparently much more comfortable than fixed braces."

How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign uses a series of clear removable aligners to straighten your teeth without metal wires or brackets.
With advanced 3D imaging equipment, custom-made sets of discreet aligners are created in accordance with your oral situation. These aligners exert mild pressure in desired areas to move your teeth into the right position. You will wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.
As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position. You’ll visit us every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned and collect your new aligners.
Invisalign FAQs
-
Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners that are custom-molded to fit you and they look like a transparent gum shield. The virtually invisible aligners are changed every 2 weeks and gradually reposition your teeth into the smile you always wanted. Treatment times vary from case to case but typically take about one year.
Your initial consultation will assess your suitability for Invisalign. At your second appointment I will take molds of your teeth as well as digital X- rays and photographs. These are sent to the Align Technology Inc. laboratory in Santa Clara, California where, with computerized technology and experienced Invisalign technicians a treatment plan is formulated.
Two weeks later a computerized 3D model of your teeth is sent back to me showing every stage of movement to the final result of beautiful straight teeth. I can then sit down with you and go through every detail of the treatment, then together we can decide if we are happy with the plan and result. If we are happy I click accept and two weeks later a box containing a full set of aligners arrives to begin treatment.
-
Time: Invisalign is designed to provide as little disruption as possible to everyday life. Using computerized technology enables the most efficient tooth movements which significantly reduce the time it takes to get to the end result and also the time you spend in the dental chair.
Aesthetics: This is probably the primary reason most people choose Invisalign. It really is discrete and virtually invisible. The computerized model enables you to see the final result before treatment is started.
Comfort: Metal braces have fixed brackets, wires and elastics which can make it difficult to chew and food can get trapped around them. The wires also make it difficult to clean your teeth and need adjusting regularly which is highly unpleasant. Invisalign aligners are removable, they are taken out for eating and are easy to clean which makes life a whole lot easier. The lighter pressures of Invisalign also reduce the discomfort from the force of tooth movement.
-
Invisalign provides a relatively light level of force compared to some other orthodontic products on the market. Therefore, particular types of movement can be difficult and Invisalign may not be the appropriate recommendation. The second reason why Invisalign may not be completely effective is due to patient interference. Because the aligners are removable, it can be tempting to wear them less often than is recommended - this is why Invisalign treatment is more suitable for adults.
