Dentaid Volunteering Trip to Cambodia
Myself and Sam [my new manager] have decided to embark on a two-week volunteering trip alongside a charity called “Dentaid” and like it says on the box, we will be providing aid to those in need of dental treatment. Following the genocide of the Khmer Rouge regime Cambodia has not recovered well and is still one of the poorest countries. Dentistry has largely been overlooked, with an average of 8-10 cavities per child.
We hope to make a huge difference to the lives of those suffering with toothache. Those of you that have had toothache in the past will know how awful and debilitating that kind of pain can be!
We will be joining a team of 6-8 dental professionals who will be administering pain relieving dentistry to those in orphanages, prisons and remote communities. These communities have limited access to dental treatment and the equipment in the villages we will visit is often very basic – dental chairs are plastic seats with brooms for a headrest.
Many of our patients have kindly sponsored us to help raise the £4200 required to fund our trip and the equipment we will need to take along. So far, we have raised just under £1000, so still have a whopping £3000 to go.
If you would like to help us reach our target by making a donation, kindly have a look at our links:
Thanks to everyone who has supported this worthy cause, your contribution will bring smiles to many.
